The Messiah Mystery Series
by David Clauson
Playwright David Clauson has done it again! This outstanding youth series will engage both your congregations and is well suited to work with youth groups or older Sunday school classes. And really . . . adults would definitely feel the JOY when performing these, too. (Imagine a church council doing this one!) This bundle contains four distinct, but well-connected full plays that would also work for a Lenten series.
You will receive . . .
1) THE MESSIAH MYSTERY EPISODE 1: JOHNNY B. BAPTIST
by David Clauson
John the Baptist is a rockstar figure, gathering a following in Bethany at the river where he presides over his ministry. He gives out advice and judgments for living, and consequently many take him to be the Messiah. But he denies this, and when Jesus shows up, John humbles himself before the true bringer of God’s grace.
2) THE MESSIAH MYSTERY EPISODE 2: KNOCKIN’ ON HEAVEN’S DOOR
by David Clauson
Jesus has begun to attract a following. Nicodemus, a curious but sympathetic Pharisee, goes to question this mysterious miracle- working man at night. After receiving strange answers from Jesus, he decides to quit arguing and open his ears. However, he is met with scorn by Jesus’s Disciples. Before he storms out, Jesus confronts Nicodemus and reminds him that not understanding is okay, and it’s the struggle to do so that counts.
3) THE MESSIAH MYSTERY EPISODE 3: WAS BLIND, BUT NOW I SEE!
by David Clauson
Jesus encounters a man born blind. When the disciples ask what the man has done, Jesus responds that the man is not being punished, but that he will help demonstrate God’s grace. This prompts a dialogue between the performers about what this might mean. When we return to the story, the Man Born Blind is apprehended by the Pharisees and questioned. When he runs into Jesus again, he confesses his faith, and Jesus articulates how the blind will see and the sighted made blind.
4) THE MESSIAH MYSTERY EPISODE 4: MUCH ADO A-DOUBT THOMAS
by David Clauson
After Christ has been crucified, died, buried, and risen from the dead, the disciples are at a bit of a loss. Thankfully, Jesus has appeared to them by night and behind locked doors, so all hope is not lost. Unfortunately, however, the disciple Thomas the Twin was not present to witness Jesus’s return, and is having trouble believing in Christ’s resurrection. The next week, Christ appears to Thomas to set all straight.
