The Forgiveness Counter

by R. Don Wright

Harriet has a hard time forgiving her husband. He always seems to be doing something that gets under her skin. She asks her pastor for advice, and is told that she needs to keep forgiving him. The pastor uses the passage about how Jesus tells Peter we need to forgive 70x7 times. In Don Wright's typically humorous writing-style, he has her taking the advice rather literally. She buys a counter, to keep track of how many times she forgives her husband!!

in the process, she exasperates her husband and her pastor. In the end, she realizes that forgiveness is a good thing that brings her closer to her spouse.

Themes: Forgiveness, literalness in interpretation and its flaws.
